But why would we need to be heroic when fighting chumps?? You were saying that earlier today and i didnt quite understand why.

To be perfectly honest i really dont think that the multiple actions are an area of concern. Combat has been going much faster now than when we started out, also i thought that air combat was a very big role, if not the biggest, and a main focal point of the game. So big that we have a seperate form of experience purely for advanceing our pilot and airmen skills.

Those are 2 seperate situations where you would need multiple actions, dealing with chumps or trying to pull off something truely heroic, you're combining them, don't. You would take a big penalty to your bonus when doing multiple actions so you would only use it when dealing with chumps (when you dont need your bonus) or when you're trying to pull off something truely heroic like grabbing a shipmate's hand as he is about to plumit to his death while throwing your saber at the last pirate left on the bridge who is intent on pulling the big red lever.

You know what? Maybe we just need a faster and smoother combat system in general. I like the way to dicepool system works for dueling, and I have ideas for a mass-combat system that would be similar but require fewer dice. I can probably adapt all of that to normal combat.

good, I would like that. Faster + smoother = better.

Pretty much always. It gets hard to strike a good balance between technically robust combat (called shots, reloads, etc) and fast/smooth combat. Extremely technical plane combat really isn't in the spirit of Ciel, so I don't have a big problem smoothing things out more.

I'll save the technical combat for combat games, namely FIL2 or Everland.

I second that, if we could get the same combat results out of half the time it would be great. I think we need to incorporate some more daring feats into our fights so that we actually enjoy them, not saying every fight should be wing walking, plane stealing debauchery but we started out being daring and then it stopped once we could effectively shoot at things.

That's...not correct use of "debauchery" at all. Neutral

Correct spelling though, so you get partial credit.

I think what I need to do is constantly destory or otherwise take away your good planes, so you constantly need to perform daring midair heists to get new ones. Mysterious fires in the accademy hangars ("Raaaven House!"), sudden violent hailstorms, bumbling NPC mechanics with faulty welding gear, inexplicable and strangely selective buffalo stampedes. Oh yeah.

To hell with your stampedes! I'm taking level 10 anti-buffalo just in case.

I don't think that plane combat has lost its touch as Joe seems to be suggesting. There are still tense moments when I don't think I'm going to make it through the session with my plane still in one piece. I was one low damage roll away from losing my plane last time, and had to use all my daring and plane tricks to keep it in one piece. I think the scaling of enemies and other students skills has been just right to strike a delicate balance between being able to best them or being defeated. I got lucky in the tournament, my die knew I needed it to perform there and gave me the kind of rolls I needed. I was honestly scared to take on Jones and lose my perfect dueling record. I think the difficulty level in the opponents is just right.

I agree with Joe that recently plane combat seems to be something to get through rather than something to enjoy. If you streamline the system as you were sayin though it should pick up.

You know what would speed up combat until I get a new system ready, and possibly resolve this in general?

You guys need more/bigger guns on your planes.

As long as it does not greatly decrease my plane's performance I'm cool with it. Guin would want to keep her plane as manueverable as possible. Not getting hit > doing more damage.
