The engine is now in place and mostly mounted in. I managed to cross thread a mount bolt on the block, so that will be annoying to fix, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem. Tomorrow I hope to have the transmission mounts and linkage hooked up. I'd also like to begin the wiring process, but that's just being ambitious. Stay tuned.

As an aside, I am tired as fuck. One of the other lube techs got fired last week and the other put in his notice. Guess whose workload more than doubled?

That's good progress. Good luck with the extra work though.

Crunch time... the E46 starts tonight or you'll hear the screaming from North Dakota. Then I'll try to collate all the pictures and get them on the forums so you guys can all see..

So. I was very happy until a few minutes ago. The engine ran last night and every time I started it this morning. Then I bolted the exhaust up and put the underbody panels back up. It bogged a bit until I blew the mouse nest out of the exhaust. Took it out for a ride and it ran like hell (in a good way). Pulled into the garage and it is idling like shit and making an intermittent pop that sounds like it's coming from the head or somewhere near the top. So I reckon I either have an issue due to having the post cat o2 sensors disconnected, more clogging in my exhaust, because this issue didn't show up until after I ran it with the exhaust bolted back up, or I have something rattling around in my cylinders or head. I'm going to go kill myself.

Pull the rear mufflers (if you can) and try it again. If you had mice in there, there's probably still a great deal of nest material in those. The baffles (at least on E36s, which shouldn't be far off, one would think) are NOT conducive to debris removal.

I was out with Ashley and her parents today and was driving myself nuts, so we just got back and I pulled my valve cover off. Everything is immaculate. I pulled the fuse for the fuel pump and had Ashley turn the engine over and I can't see any issues. So that can be scratched off the list. I think tomorrow mornings agenda is pull the mufflers. Because a lot of this weirdness started after I bolted the headers up to the exhaust. The only other factors I can think of is shit fuel causing erratic pinging, and the lack of o2 sensors because I'm still waiting on a piece for my cheater box..

The fall safe fuel maps should be active if the o2s are disconnected. It may be a little rich, but it shouldn't run badly.

This is something like what you'll see in your mufler. It's hard to get anything out.

I could see the issue with that. So I pulled the spark plugs just to make sure everything was kosher, and fired it up. The only noise is popping and pinging at idle. So I think It's o2 sensors. Everything over idle is good from 800 rpm to 7500. When it idles the popping and pinging is cutout I think. I am waiting for a resistor set to run in line with my post cat sensors. So woo hoo. I don't have to rage quit life.

Update: so I dumped a can of Seafoam into the fuel tank and blasted around the backroads for about 10 miles. The car runs awesonely. I'm so pleased. Just need my resistors and bits so I can get rid of the CEL.
