...is on sale!

$2.49 for a single, $7.49 for a four-pack. Who's in?

[Something snarky about Steam selling four-packs of single-player games.]

Yes.

I know JW was interested, but I'm not sure if he owns the game or not.

i wasn't incredibly impressed with it when I played it. It seemed like a less free spirited Minecraft. Instead of that, why don't we update the server to the newest minecraft version and start playing vanilla minecraft on a brand new world?

I'll give it a try for that price.

Do you already own it, or was that a free weekend thing?

In any event, I think it's more about exploration and fighting monsters than building things, if you want to make a direct comparison to Minecraft.

It was a free weekend thing. I gave it a shot cuz everyone said that it was similar to minecraft. and it's really not. you build, mine and craft, that's about all that's similar. You're right, it's about exploration and there is a TON more combat in it than minecraft. I dunno, maybe i'm just partial to the FPS presentation of minecraft as opposed to the 2D side scrolling of terraria.

Terraria 1.3 has been out for a little while now. There is a ton more content like mounts, rare weapons, a mode after hard mode called Elite that has rare monsters and such.

I'm probably going to spend some time playing around to see how it is.

I played this a couple of months ago, and I felt like I was never making much progress, so I ended up shelving it. Is it worth another try?

I think it's more fun exploring with friends than it ever was trying to make solo progress.

I agree with Joe, but I was never able to contribute enough time to it. I felt like every time I logged on, everyone was leaps and bounds ahead of me. They would donate gear, help get me caught up, then I would be done for the evening, log on next time, and the same thing would happen.

It wasn't a bad game, but not playing as much as everyone else kinda stunk. Especially since it is super difficult to progress on your own, so I couldn't just jump on at 10am on a Saturday to try to stay relevant.

This was exactly my experience, too. You can always design your own little chunk of the world, regardless of what anyone else is doing, but if that's your main focus, I would just recommend Minecraft.

I'd recommend we pick a day like this Saturday and just all start at noon or something and pay together for a few hours, you'll get most of the experience that way without losing days of your life.
