Pope, eh? I like the sound of that... found a long block for 4200 and a wiring harness and coils for 300... and it would still be in a 5 series so that works!...

That strikes me as a really good price for an S62. Of course, you're still into an OBD1 conversion there, but it would be more worth it.

Figure out ews before you buy one, or make sure you have a complete running harness, dme, ews box, ignition, etc...

I'd like to once again point out that an LS1/etc. crate motor will be waaaaay cheaper and easier.
