The top of the article states that they no longer serve a security purpose, my guess is that the secret service is all centralized on a secure/encrypted frequency now so their codenames hardly matter since anyone who managed to decrypt it would probably already know what they were talking about.

Bush recently released a new batch of pardons, I don't understand the pardoning system, I mean the appeals courts make perfect sense so most cases. In instances where someone was following orders to protect the country like the interrogations of prisoners after 9/11 pardons sort of make sense but it seems silly that the president has absolute power to pardon those the judicial branch deems need to be imprissoned.

Technically he's pardoning those that the legislative branch deems need to be imprisoned.

Aside from that, I have no real insight here. Executive privilege is probably pretty fair considering the shit that POTUSes have to deal with.

I just think that the crimes he was pardoning were freaking bizarre, everything from "illegal use of fertilizer" to "violating the bald eagle protection act" to "trafficing marajuana and cocaine". I assume they do enough research to ensure the pardons are warranted, but one might think that the judicial system would do said research before prosecuting them.

You think all that bush pardoned was bad. Look at Clintons pardons. Lots of white collar crime was let slide then.

Not bad, just bizzare, like what reasoning do they use to determine who should go free?

There's probably something more official, but I'm guessing it's just whoever they please. Probably mostly friends and such.

I think Clinton pardoned something like...what, 150 people?

Has to be more, the article I read said something like "Bush has pardoned 171 to date, less than half what Clinton pardoned".

Bush's pardons, 171 to date. Clinton has almost that much on his final day.

It was at noon, he gave a pretty decent speech, not a tear jerker or anything, but it might be worth looking it up. It was about 20 minutes in length.
