http://www.dailydot.com/politics/greenhouse-browser-plugin-political-donations/

Very cool plugin made by a 16 year old.

Not sure I'd install something made by a 16 year old but the concept I thought was worth pointing out.

Yeah, that's actually pretty clever.

How about the recent double whammy to the ncaa and the concept of amateur athletics?

Video about how St. Louis basically gerrymanders its municipalities to increase revenue from traffic enforcement:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/posttv/editorial/a-ride-along-with-lawyers-in-the-st-louis-suburbs/2014/09/04/f79a408a-346f-11e4-9f4d-24103cb8b742_video.html

For some reason the video looked like total ass in Opera (completely unwatchable after the first 20 seconds or so), but decent in Chrome.

Edit: Here's an article to go with that.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2014/09/04/st_louis_fines_system_washington_post_reports_on_tickets_arrests_in_ferguson.html

Quote:
Beverly Hills, Missouri has a population of 571. Its City Hall and police station share a building with a pharmacy. Yet in 2013, the town handed out 3,250 traffic tickets, and issued another 1,085 citations for violations of non-traffic ordinances.

Quote:
As of June 30 of 2013, there were 23,457 arrest warrants pending in Pine Lawn Municipal Court, or about 7.3 per resident...Pine Lawn is far from the worst. The aforementioned town of Country Club Hills has over 33,000 outstanding arrest warrants, or an astonishing 26 per resident.

So yeah...pretty much fuck St. Louis and everything around it. Ferguson is starting to make a perverse kind of sense.

"it's not uncommon for our clients to have tickets from 8-10 different municipalities with 4-5 charges on each of them..." (paraphrase from the video)

32 separate charges?! Although this is really heinous in terms of the gerrymandering, but who gets 32 different charges? Even if he was exaggerating a bit, there had to be someone who accrued something like that.

I'm sure if you drove in these places regularly it's nearly impossible to not get a ticket so the near-by residents are probably the biggest victims.

That's kind of disturbing. I'd like to know what the justification was for implementing that to begin with.

I'm pretty sure that's going away, I mean it's a blatant 1st amendment violation. Someone just needs to take it to court.

Heeeeey, look at that. It's almost as if looking like assholes in front of the whole nation was a bad thing.

Of course, the whole thing relies on those 220,000 cases being voluntarily rescheduled for hearings by the defendants, so this will either do very little or force STL to drop those cases entirely.
