Are you implying that my admins have no powers?
You are of course correct, now you should force them to prove their tiny abilities to you; I'll be at the sql console, where the real power is. Wink

[Complete reassertion of grammatical dominance]

Actually, a comma would have made his statement correct, but the lack of one was simply a syntax error and did not affect the meaning of the sentence. The only thing that could be done to negate his approval of the situation would have been the use of a colon, strengthened and clarified by the addition of quotation marks. Remember, "Capitalize the first word after a colon only if it is a proper noun or the start of a complete sentence" (Guide 326). For example:

"No": That sounds good.

As you can see, in this case, the object that "sounds good" is the word "No," and therefore the meaning of the sentence changed to reflect disapproval of the options I had put forth.

Works Cited:

"A Guide to Punctuation." Associated Press Stylebook 2005. Ed. Norm Goldstein. New York, NY: The Associated Press, 2005. 322-335.

[/Complete reassertion of grammatical dominance]

Something in this post is very ironic. If you can tell me what, I'll give you 20 experience. Wink

I still say it makes no sense in the context of what you said.
I'm not a fiend like you, but the question about how early we need to start is pretty clearly not answered by a negative or positive response.

As for the irony, you mean besides me correcting grammar?
Missing info from your citation?

Is the irony the fact that you capitolized "No" after the colon in For example: even though it wasn't the start of a complete sentance or a proper noun?

Nah. I was quoting an earlier phrase so I kept the capitalization the same.

Is the irony that you originally gained your gramatical dominance in large part due to joewhite's lack thereof and in this case, where you re-assert it, you are defending joewhite's grammar instead of tearing it down as you would normally do? Also, more generally, you are asserting your dominace, but only supporting someone else. It would be like joewhite quoting some obscure mathmatical principle and me agreeing, but claiming mathmatical dominance while doing so.

That's my guess. If it's gramatical I won't catch it. We'll just say, if the above is wrong, that it's all due to alliteration.

It was alliteration wasn't it?

Actually, it would be like JW stating mathematical principle in a somewhat poor way, then you clarifying it.

In any event, I was stepping in because John tried to assume my role of grammar-nazi, and I'm the resident GN here.

Also, the irony is that I used MLA format to cite something from the AP Stylebook. They're two completely different styles! Razz *

*I secretly want to kill myself. I'm starting to hate grammar but I can't stop now. Oh noooooes!
