Nice. I wasn't sure if that would really work. I'm interested in long term results too.

Correcting corrosion can have interesting effects. Re: the watercraft industry, we would get good results out of a lot of bad wiring by cleanup, as long as it wasn't a termimal cancer, or leeched into anything else like ECMs or gauge clusters.

Anyhow I think we talked about this but I forget, did you end up replacing the MAFs or is this fix still working?

Haven't had the spare cash for new ones. Still behaving for now, but I'm sure I could kick it into protection mode if I really tried.

I wonder how much of this translates over to the M54... I got my rebuilt vanos in yesterday, the old one was fucking wore out. So after work today I'm gonna drop my valve cover in the parts washer because it's still gross, then install that tonight. After eliminating that possible fault the only thing I have left to test is the MAF if my engine still makes the erratic knock/pinging.

I would suspect that it just pulls timing or spark, but I don't know your dme specifically. If you run it without the maf plugged in it should use the fail-safe maps. If that's very different then it's worth suspecting.
