http://www.fark.com/comments/7830555/Last-words-Dude-why-did-you-shoot-me-I-was-reading-a-book

It's a long article, but the writing and content are both top-notch. I'm afraid it won't exactly make you feel awesome about where we're headed as a nation.

Had to link the Fark thread since the quotation marks in the url broke the forums for some reason. The actual article is the Salon link toward the top of the page.

That is a through article. Nothing that's going to make you sleep better though.

Here is a situation that Shaquille O'Neil did not make better.

I dunno how biased this news is but I hadn't heard anything about it, and that is alot of deaths for no news I've heard of.

You should probably read the whole thing.

And yeah, that's funny to say and all, but if you really step back and look at it, how completely fucked is our society that a show like this even exists? Watching an untrained celebrity go in on no-knock raids and then handle weapons -- as fucking entertainment?! It's like some kind of Orwell/Farenheit 451 mashup. It's completely sickening.

Actually came back to mention I did some more research today and the article is an allusion to the British taking arms from the colonists before the revolution and not an actual news event. Tldr

Yeah. That was why Mark said you should finish reading it.

Another article from the same book as the first link

http://www.salon.com/2013/07/10/militarized_police_overreach_oh_god_i_thought_they_were_going_to_shoot_me_next%E2%80%9D/

Those quotes need encoding, and are not a standard character. Tools.

That author's work is so good that I kind of want to buy the book, but the subject matter is so damned upsetting that I'm not sure I could stand to read the entire thing.

Hey at least that second one had a happy ending, with the family being paid restitution, that transparency bill getting passed, and reforms to the way police perform raids in that county.

I just don't know what to think about that. It's promising, and completely futile at the same time.
