Maybe this is what can happen when a leader doesn't need to worry about reelection...

I think after the last pope failed to bring about any changes they knew it was time to really shake things up. I hope Catholicism can make the turn from dying rigid religion to an inclusive group dedicated to doing good with all that power.

Cara and I were talking about Pope Francis. This may be exactly what the Catholic Church needs. A leader of common sense. This pontiff is moving in the correct direction because, as Cara goes to church with her mom on certain occasions, she says that the pews just keep becoming more and more vacant.

Catholicism is an ancient machine. I find it hard for one man to make that much of a difference. I really feel like he is just the face-man of the organization, and they are trying hard for some new branding, since you know...all of that scandal...so much scandal...

Anyway, I wouldn't hold out too much hope that things will be different for the church. Religion doesn't change much.

Catholicism is also similar in structure to a dictatorship. The pope technically speaks infallibly on matters of morality and ethics because he channels holy spirit mojo. He can appoint bishops and if I remember properly the only group he has to share power with is the Curia most of whom he appoints.

I think it is the ancient nature of the machine that MAY allow radical changes in doctrine to occur. I mean if the Pope makes a proclamation that's pretty much it.

I do, however, agree that doctrine and practice are different and it takes any large group of people time to adjust to new ideas and laws of their group so in that respect we may not see a lot of change.

And now we have a much less (choose 2: crazy, homophobic, ass backwards) old man driving that machine.

Il Papa bringing the pain again:

Quote:
“In ideologies there is not Jesus...The faith becomes ideology and ideology frightens, ideology chases away the people, distances, distances the people and distances of the Church of the people. But it is a serious illness, this of ideological Christians. It is an illness, but it is not new, eh?”

Love this guy.
